Life Imprisonment for Man Convicted of Rape of 6-Year-Old

Salumber, May 13: A special POCSO court in Salumber has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of a six-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the convict. The case was heard by Special POCSO Judge Rameshwar Prasad Chaudhary.

The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, in a village within the Semari police station area, where the accused was a resident. Following a report filed by the victim’s family, the police registered a case and arrested the accused. After completing the investigation, the case was presented in the POCSO court.

Special Public Prosecutor Ranjit Purbiya represented the prosecution in court. During the hearing, the prosecution presented statements from 13 witnesses along with 35 written and physical pieces of evidence. Based on the medical report, police investigation, and other evidence, the court found the accused guilty.

Considering the severity of the case, the court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment until his last breath. Additionally, an economic penalty was imposed in light of the mental and social harm suffered by the victim. Following the verdict, both the police and the prosecution described it as a strong message against child crimes. Local residents welcomed the decision, stating that swift and severe punishment in such cases would instill fear in potential offenders. The victim’s family expressed satisfaction with the justice received.
