Diver Drowns While Retrieving iPhone from Well

Udaipur, May 29: A tragic incident occurred in the Gogunda police station area of Udaipur district, where an experienced diver drowned while attempting to retrieve an iPhone that had fallen into a well. Following the incident, the deceased’s family and community members have refused to collect the body until a case is filed against the jeweler’s father and a compensation of ₹20 lakh is granted.

According to Gogunda Station House Officer Shyam Singh Charan, the victim has been identified as 48-year-old Keshulal Gameti, a resident of Machind village. His body was recovered from the well with the help of local residents on Wednesday evening. Efforts are currently being made to counsel the family.

Reports indicate that the jeweler, Kuldeep Singh, had lost his iPhone during a communal bathing ritual while attending an 11th-day ceremony for a relative in Maruwas village. Keshulal Gameti was called to retrieve the phone and arrived at the scene with his son, Rooplal.

Despite descending into the well twice, the phone was not found. During the third attempt, while searching deeper, Keshulal drowned. After approximately one and a half hours of efforts, police and villagers managed to recover his body.

Rooplal, the deceased’s son, alleged that his father did not wish to descend for a third time, but was urged to do so by the jeweler’s father. The family has stated that they will not allow a post-mortem until their demands are met.
