Police Station Used as Torture Room for Bribery

Udaipur, May 21: Shocking revelations have emerged in the investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sunil Bishnoi, who was caught accepting a bribe of one lakh rupees at the Pratap Nagar police station in Udaipur. According to ACB’s inquiry and remand notes, the accused ASI had turned a room in the police station into a ‘torture room’ where victims were intimidated to extract large sums of money.

The investigation revealed that on May 7, following a minor altercation with a young woman at a café, ASI Sunil Bishnoi, along with his associates Constables Banwari Lal and Shankar Lal, took a young man to the police station and held him captive. When he protested, he was slapped and brutally beaten with a belt. They threatened him with charges of rape under Section 376, stating that “if he did not pay the money, he would be imprisoned for a long time.”

Sources indicate that instead of directly stating the amount, the ASI showed the victim a calculator on his mobile phone, writing down three lakh rupees. Later, Constable Shankar Lal acted as an intermediary, negotiating the bribe down to one lakh thirty thousand rupees. The accused ASI had already received twenty-five thousand rupees prior to this.

Sent to Jail for Fifteen Days
Following the victim’s complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught ASI Sunil Bishnoi red-handed accepting the one lakh rupee bribe on May 17. The court has remanded the accused to judicial custody for fifteen days. The roles of both constables are also under investigation, and their arrest is anticipated.
