Udaipur to Launch 50 Electric Buses in June

Udaipur, May 20: The city of lakes, Udaipur, is set to take a significant step towards modern and eco-friendly public transport. Residents will soon find relief from rising traffic, expensive fuel prices, and pollution as 50 new electric buses are scheduled to hit the roads next month under the Prime Minister’s e-bus service scheme.
The construction of a state-of-the-art e-bus depot in Dholi Pati, costing around ₹9 crore, is nearing completion. The facility, which includes charging stations and electrical systems, is ready, with only the final connection work pending before it is handed over to City Transport.
Initially, bus operations will commence on 10 routes, including five new ones, with plans to expand to 15 routes as needed. Of the 50 buses, 45 will be 9 meters long, suitable for the narrow and internal roads of the city, while five larger buses will operate on main routes.
The new e-buses are expected to provide a comfortable journey at lower fares, reducing dependence on private vehicles and alleviating traffic congestion and parking issues. The operation of electric buses will also contribute to a decrease in noise and air pollution, enhancing environmental conservation in this tourist city. Municipal Commissioner and City Transport Chairman Abhishek Khanna confirmed that all preparations for the bus operations starting in June have been completed.
