Udaipur, May 20: The Udaipur Court has taken a serious view of the incident where individuals arrested for gambling were paraded on the streets in a humiliating manner, referred to as being made into ‘murga’ (a form of public humiliation). Chief Judicial Magistrate Manish Kumar Joshi has directed Udaipur Superintendent of Police Dr. Amrita Duhan to obtain explanations from the concerned police officials within seven days and report back to the court.
The court also ordered the removal of photos and videos related to the parade and the humiliation from social media. This directive was issued during the hearing of the bail application of the accused.
On May 15, 2026, police arrested 16 individuals for allegedly gambling as part of an organized group. Cases were registered against the accused under Section 112(2) of the BNS and the Rajasthan Gambling Ordinance. Following their arrest, the accused were paraded on the streets before being presented in court the next day and sent to judicial custody.
The accused’s lawyer, Abdul Aleem Khan, stated that while the bail application was rejected, the court deemed the police action to be serious. According to the lawyer, the parade was conducted in the presence of DSP Suryaveer Singh Rathore and seizing officer Jagdish Kumar. The court has now sought a response regarding the entire matter.
