
Salumber, May 17: A shopkeeper has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the POCSO court in Salumber district for the rape of a minor girl and attempted murder. Special Judge Rameshwar Prasad Chaudhary, after hearing the case, deemed the accused guilty and made strong remarks, stating that such crimes create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in society, and the guilty are not entitled to any leniency.
Victim Went to Buy Biscuits
The prosecution stated that the victim had gone to a local shop to buy biscuits. When she asked for her change, the accused shopkeeper snatched her mobile phone and, under the pretext of returning it, forcefully took her to a room behind the shop, where he raped her.
Attacked with a Pickaxe
When the victim resisted and threatened to shout, the accused attacked her on the neck with a pickaxe, rendering her unconscious. During this time, a female accomplice arrived and, after the victim regained consciousness, assaulted her.
19 Witnesses and 41 Documents Presented
Special Public Prosecutor Ranjit Purbiya effectively argued the case in court, presenting 19 witnesses and 41 documentary evidences. Based on the evidence, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
