Udaipur, May 31: Concerns regarding jail security have intensified following a second major incident within a month where jail staff and police personnel have faced assaults. In the latest incident at the central jail, an inmate attacked the jailer, while just days earlier, a police officer on duty was also assaulted by prisoners.
Attack Linked to Transfer Demand
Jailer Satyendra Kumar reported at the Surajpol police station that on the morning of May 28, inmate Shashi Bharti approached his office demanding a transfer. When the jailer informed him that the request would be processed through the proper channels, Bharti became agitated and allegedly grabbed the jailer’s collar, leading to a physical altercation. Staff members intervened and managed to subdue the inmate.
Police Officer Assaulted
In a separate incident, a police officer in the jail was attacked by three inmates. Reports suggest that the officer had previously arrested these individuals during his duty. The assault appears to be an act of revenge related to a bribery case that led to the officer’s incarceration. Following the attack, jail authorities moved the affected officer to a different barrack. It is noteworthy that on April 23, inmates had also assaulted jail officials and guards during a search operation, resulting in injuries.
