Udaipur, June 29: Hindustan Zinc, one of the world’s largest integrated zinc producers and a top silver producer, has significantly enhanced education in rural Rajasthan through its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program, ‘Shiksha Sambal’. Since its inception in 2018, the initiative has provided continuous academic support to over 47,000 students, focusing on science, mathematics, and English.
Recently, the company organized its 9th summer camp, benefiting more than 1,600 students. The camp offered practical experiences in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), digital technology, innovation, arts, sports, and other activities. Volunteers from institutions like Delhi University and IISER, along with company employees and local community members, contributed to the camp.
To ensure students continue their studies during summer vacations, residential and non-residential camps were held in Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Salumber, and Udaipur districts. Bhavesh Menaria, a student from the village of Gwardi in Rajsamand, shared his experience, stating, “Before the camp, I had only read about STEM and digital tools. Working on practical projects here helped me understand how technology can solve real-life problems.” This initiative aids students in developing essential skills, confidence, and broad thinking.
‘Shiksha Sambal’ connects students with education in STEM, digital literacy, leadership development, and career guidance. Preeti Rao, a student from Bhilwara, noted, “Participating in the camp has improved my communication, problem-solving, and digital skills. Learning new things here has inspired me to move forward.” Over the past few years, ‘Shiksha Sambal’ has emerged as a strong medium for educational improvement in rural Rajasthan. The impact is evident in the results of 2026, where Class 10 achieved a pass rate of 92.53% and Class 12 reached 99.43%. While the average pass rate in Rajasthan over the last decade has been around 67.66%, the 37 schools associated with ‘Shiksha Sambal’ achieved a 100% pass rate, raising the overall level to nearly 96%.
Hanshika Verma, a student from Chittorgarh, expressed, “This program has helped me in subjects where I was weak. The guidance and study materials provided here have boosted my confidence.” Mohit Meena from Udaipur, now studying at IISER Pune, stated, “’Shiksha Sambal’ laid a strong foundation for my studies, which is why I am able to attend a good institution today.”
