Udaipur, June 8: Players from Udaipur showcased exceptional talent at the 4th Gujarat International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament held in Ahmedabad. Competing in Category C (Below 1700 Rating), the participants from Chess in Lake City brought pride to Udaipur and Rajasthan. Chief Patron Tushar Mehta noted that the prestigious FIDE-rated tournament saw hundreds of players from across the country, and the Udaipur players demonstrated remarkable skill, focus, and competitive spirit.
Among the standout performers were five talented students from St. Anthony’s Senior Secondary School. Hardik Gupta (Rating 1563) scored an impressive 7 points throughout the tournament. Priyanshu Nayak (Rating 1685) also showcased his talent with 7 points. Anirudh Sahu (Rating 1452) delivered a stellar performance, achieving 7 points against higher-rated opponents. Mitansh Sahu (Rating 1598) matched his peers with 7 points as well. Himansh Chaubisa (Rating 1463) earned 5.5 points, gaining valuable competitive experience.
The school’s principal, William D’Souza, expressed pride in the students’ achievements, attributing their success to hard work, discipline, and dedication. He emphasized that their accomplishments are a matter of pride for the entire school community and expressed confidence that they would excel in the national championships, further elevating the name of Rajasthan and the school. The school community congratulated the players on their remarkable achievements and wished them success in future national competitions.
MDS Public School’s Jenil Parmar (Rating 1664) also performed admirably, securing 7 points and excelling in several key matches. Meanwhile, Viraj Darak from Pine World School participated and gained valuable experience through his competitive matches. The performances of all players demonstrated that Chess in Lake City is consistently establishing a strong presence at the national level.
On this occasion, Tushar Mehta, along with other officials from Chess in Lake City, extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the players for their outstanding performances. They expressed hope that the players would achieve remarkable success in upcoming national and international chess competitions, further bringing glory to Udaipur and Rajasthan.
Awards were won by Anirudh Sahu, who, with a rating of 1452, scored 7 points and secured first place in the Best Rating Category (Below 1451-1500), earning a prize of ₹20,000. Hardik Gupta, with a rating of 1563, also achieved 7 points, finishing fourth in the Best Rating Category (Below 1551-1600) and winning ₹6,000. Priyanshu Nayak, rated 1685, earned 7 points and placed 28th in the main prize list, receiving a cash prize of ₹5,000. Jenil Parmar consistently performed well throughout the tournament, earning 7 points and making a mark among top players. Mitansh Sahu secured 10th place in the Best Rating Category (Below 1551-1600) with 7 points, winning ₹5,000. Himansh Chaubisa earned 5.5 points, showcasing his capabilities against strong opponents. Viraj Darak, as a young player, gained important experience with 4 points, which will strengthen his game in the future.
