Major Alcohol Smuggling Operation Foiled in Udaipur

Udaipur, May 14: The Excise Department has successfully intercepted a container filled with illegal English liquor worth approximately ₹30 lakh in the Kherwada area of Udaipur. The alcohol was being smuggled to Gujarat, hidden in a secret compartment created within the container. This operation took place during a checkpoint at the Khandi Obri toll plaza.

Acting on a tip-off, Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta and Additional Excise Commissioner Pradeep Singh Sangawat formed a special team to investigate the matter. Under the guidance of District Excise Officer Aadarsh and Deputy Commissioner Pradyuman Singh, Excise Inspector Jitendra Singh Rathore stopped the container for inspection.

Initially, the container appeared empty, but a thorough search revealed a hidden compartment disguised behind the wheel cap. Upon opening the compartment, officials discovered 330 cartons of Royal Challenge and All Season brands, containing 1,680 bottles and 9,120 pints. All the liquor was marked “For Sale in Chandigarh.”

The driver, identified as Masri, son of Shrawan Kodiyatar from Porbandar, was arrested at the scene. Investigations revealed that he is a notorious smuggler, having been previously arrested on March 29, 2026, with 820 cartons of liquor. The Excise Department is now probing the source of the alcohol and the supply network in Gujarat.
