Udaipur, June 29: Hindustan Zinc has marked its 60th anniversary with ambitious plans to double its production capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) over the next five years. The company aims to invest between ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 crore in a capital expenditure program that includes brownfield expansions and initiatives to streamline operations and supply chains.
In the fiscal year 2026, Hindustan Zinc achieved record performance with metal production exceeding 1.1 million tonnes, the highest to date, while maintaining one of the lowest costs globally. The company reported record revenue, EBITDA, and net profit, with an EBITDA margin exceeding 50%, the best in the industry.
Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar emphasized the importance of developing domestic capabilities in critical minerals as a cornerstone of India’s long-term growth journey. She stated, “Our goal is to become a future-ready energy transition company that enhances its strength in multiple metals and critical minerals, thereby accelerating India’s industrial development and empowering global supply chains.”
Hindustan Zinc is strengthening its pipeline of essential minerals through Hindmetal Exploration Services Private Limited. The company has acquired new blocks for tungsten, potash, and rare earth elements, including the rare earth monazite block, marking one of the first purchases by a private company in India.
Beyond mining, Hindustan Zinc is creating an integrated ecosystem in downstream manufacturing, circular resource recovery, and digital operations. The Zinc Industrial Park initiative reflects this vision, as the company collaborates with Tripura Group and CMR Green Technologies to establish India’s first integrated ecosystem for zinc-based manufacturing, promoting domestic value addition and the Make in India agenda. Additionally, the company is working on a tailing reprocessing facility with an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes to extract value from old tailings.
In terms of sustainability, Hindustan Zinc is committed to responsible development, aiming to source 70% of its power from renewable sources by fiscal year 2028. The company is also making strides in water management, circular resource utilization, and biodiversity. Its community welfare initiatives have reached over 4,000 villages, positively impacting 2.6 million people.
Looking ahead, the company has stated that its priorities will focus on strengthening cost leadership, responsible development, expanding its resource base, advancing sustainability, and delivering long-term returns to shareholders. As it enters its seventh decade, Hindustan Zinc is preparing for the next phase of growth, which will be based on scale, strength, mineral security, and long-term value creation.
