BJP Leader Anil Jaroli Arrested Amid Political Controversy

Udaipur, May 29: Anil Jaroli, a leader associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and president of the Oswal Mahasabha Youth, was finally arrested by the police on Thursday after a prolonged political tug-of-war. He faced serious charges, including attempted rape, assault, and indecency, stemming from incidents involving a female leader and former councilor. His relief from the High Court, which had previously protected him from arrest, expired on May 18. Despite this, Jaroli continued to participate openly in political events, remained active on social media, and shared pictures and statuses with local leaders, while police action was stalled.

The primary question raised in this case is how Jaroli managed to evade police capture for several days after the High Court lifted the stay on his arrest. Would this have been possible without political influence? Is such privilege accessible to the common citizen?

Details of the Arrest

According to sources, a formal report was submitted to the Superintendent of Police and the Inspector General, demanding Jaroli’s arrest, highlighting that a powerful individual was roaming free despite the High Court’s orders. Consequently, the investigation was reassigned from the Ghantaghar police station to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhagan Rajpurohit of the Women’s Investigation Cell. Reports indicate that the file reached him on Wednesday, leading to Jaroli’s arrest on Thursday. This time, political influence did not prevail.

Jaroli faced two FIRs registered at the Ghantaghar police station in 2025. The first FIR was filed by a BJP female leader and sitting councilor, who alleged that Jaroli had entered her home, assaulted her, behaved indecently, and attempted rape. The following day, allegations also surfaced against him for attacking the victim’s family at their residence.

To avoid arrest, Jaroli had secured a stay from the Rajasthan High Court, claiming the dispute was related to financial transactions and business conflicts, asserting his innocence. However, the victim’s side presented comprehensive facts and evidence in court. After hearing the case, the High Court deemed a detailed investigation necessary and lifted the stay on May 12.

Meanwhile, Jaroli had also filed a case against the victim’s husband for alleged financial fraud, but this was found to be false during the investigation, leading the police to file a final report. Discussions in political circles suggest that Jaroli’s influence was significant enough that he continued to appear at public events with leaders even after the High Court’s relief expired. He is considered close to a prominent BJP leader from the region. Following this entire episode, questions have been raised regarding the police’s operational effectiveness. Notably, Anil Jaroli holds positions within the BJP Udaipur Rural organization and is also linked to the Oswal Mahasabha as its youth president. The investigation is now being conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhagan Rajpurohit.
