Major Drug Bust in Udaipur

Udaipur, May 24: In a significant operation against illegal narcotics, the Saira police station seized 421.780 kilograms of illegal opium poppy husk and a Scorpio vehicle. During the operation, the traffickers opened fire on the police team, prompting the officers to retaliate. The assailants abandoned their vehicle and fled into the nearby forest.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of the Inspector General of Police, Udaipur Range, and led by District Superintendent of Police Dr. Amrita Duhan, with additional support from Assistant Superintendent of Police Anjana Sukhalwal and Circle Officer Gopal Chandel.

While conducting a blockade in the Ranakpur Ghats area, the police signaled a white Scorpio car (registration number MH47BF8422) to stop. However, the driver attempted to break through the blockade and sped away towards Ranakpur.

As the police pursued, one of the occupants fired 5 to 6 rounds at the officers. In response, Station House Officer Kanaram Sirvi fired two rounds from his service pistol. Faced with increasing pressure, the driver and his accomplice abandoned the Scorpio on the road and escaped into the forest.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 22 bags filled with illegal opium poppy husk, weighing a total of 421.780 kilograms. The estimated value of the seized drugs and the vehicle is around ₹84 lakh.

The police have registered a case under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act, Section 109(1) of the BNS, and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act, and an investigation is underway. A search operation is being conducted in the surrounding areas to locate the fleeing suspects.

Police officials have stated that the crackdown on drug traffickers will continue with the same intensity.
