Udaipur, May 10: A powerful explosion occurred at a power transformer of the electricity department in Udaipur on Saturday afternoon, amidst the ongoing extreme heat. The blast caused flames to rise rapidly, creating panic in the area. Workers immediately took action to extinguish the fire, and fire brigade vehicles arrived promptly at the scene. After about an hour of effort, the fire was brought under control.
The incident took place at the Bichhdi 33/11 kV substation located on the Powerhouse-Kurabad Road. According to employees, a loud explosion was heard around 3:15 PM, and upon investigation, it was found that the transformer had caught fire following the blast. The fire spread quickly, prompting a call to the Hindustan Zinc fire station.
Fire Extinguished After One Hour
Within ten minutes, two fire engines arrived at the scene and worked alongside the staff to extinguish the flames. By 4:15 PM, the fire was completely under control. The site was attended by Assistant Engineer Vijay Meghwal, Junior Engineer Geetanjali, and Lineman Pushkar Patel, among other staff members. Initial investigations suggest that the extreme heat may have caused the explosion. Following the incident, power supply was disrupted in Bichhdi, the Zinc area, Bhallon’s Guda, and surrounding areas. The department has begun work on installing a new transformer.
Udaipur Sizzles in Heat
Since 7 AM, the impact of the hot winds has been felt in Udaipur. As the day progressed, temperatures soared past 41 degrees Celsius. In several areas, water tanks placed on rooftops reached boiling point. The streets were deserted during the afternoon as people remained indoors. The weather department has issued an alert for continued extreme heat over the next two days.
