Udaipur, May 19: The city of lakes, Udaipur, experienced an unprecedented heatwave on Monday, breaking all previous records. According to the Dabok Meteorological Centre, the maximum temperature reached 43.3 degrees Celsius, marking the hottest day of the season. The intense sunlight and hot winds severely impacted daily life, leaving the streets and markets eerily quiet as residents chose to stay indoors.
Tourism Hit by Scorching Heat
The heat also took a toll on tourism activities in Udaipur. Popular spots like Sukhadia Circle and Fatehsagar Lake saw a significant drop in visitors throughout the day. Paddle boating, usually a major attraction for families and children at Sukhadia Circle, was nearly non-existent, with operators reporting minimal footfall from morning till evening. The extreme heat deterred both locals and tourists from venturing out during the day.
Evening Resurgence
Activity began to pick up around five in the evening as temperatures slightly dropped. Families and tourists were seen heading towards Fatehsagar, Sukhadia Circle, and other attractions in search of cooler air. The temperature on Monday was more than a degree higher compared to Sunday, with Salumber also recording a maximum temperature of 42 degrees. Experts have advised residents to limit outdoor activities during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against the heat.
