
Udaipur, June 30: Athletes from Udaipur showcased an impressive performance at the 14th National Pencak Silat Championship held in Nashik, Maharashtra, from June 25 to 28, 2026. Representing Rajasthan, the players secured a total of 16 medals, including 3 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze.
Harish Kumar Sawariya, Secretary of the Udaipur Pencak Silat Association, stated that approximately 2,000 athletes from across the country participated in this four-day national event. The championship was organized under the joint auspices of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation and the Maharashtra Pencak Silat Association.

The Growing Importance of Sports and Government Support
Harish Kumar Sawariya mentioned that Pencak Silat is a recognized sport by the Government of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Since 2020, it has been included under the 5% sports reservation policy, providing athletes with opportunities in government jobs. This sport is also recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, the All India Police Sports Control Board, and the Olympic Council of Asia.
He further noted that Pencak Silat has become part of prestigious competitions such as the Asian Games, Asian Martial Arts Games, and the National Games, offering athletes extensive opportunities to showcase their talent at both national and international levels.
