Udaipur, May 21: Udaipur is experiencing a significant rise in temperatures, with a severe heatwave alert issued for the next four days. The scorching heat and strong winds have disrupted daily life, leaving the streets of both the main city and upscale colonies eerily deserted during the afternoon hours. The discomfort from the heat is now extending into the nights, providing little relief to residents.
The temperature starts to rise sharply after 10 AM, often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius between 11 AM and 12 PM. Traffic on the roads decreases considerably post-noon, as people seek shade and cooler areas to escape the heat.
According to the meteorological department, Udaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The previous day saw even higher temperatures, with a maximum of 43.3 degrees and a minimum of 29 degrees Celsius. Despite a slight drop in temperature, the intense sunlight and hot winds continue to pose challenges for the residents.
The weather department has indicated that a heatwave condition persists in northwestern India, while a western disturbance is active in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Light clouds may form due to moisture from the Arabian Sea, but the heatwave is expected to last for the next three to four days, with maximum temperatures hovering around 42 degrees Celsius and warm nights ahead.
Precautions to Avoid Heatstroke:
1. Avoid going out in the sun between 12 PM and 4 PM.
2. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fluids.
3. Wear light-colored, cotton clothing.
4. Protect your head with a hat, scarf, or umbrella.
5. Keep children and the elderly away from direct sunlight.
6. Do not venture out on an empty stomach and consider consuming ORS.
