Rajasthans Excise Department Cracks Down on Illegal Liquor Trade

Udaipur, May 17: The Excise Department of Rajasthan has launched a stringent campaign to curb the illegal liquor trade across the state. Under the directives of Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta, a special operation conducted from May 1 to May 14 resulted in extensive raids, checkpoints, and patrols targeting liquor mafias. During this operation, 670 individuals were arrested, and 69 vehicles used for liquor smuggling were seized.

Additional Excise Commissioner Anil Kumar Sharma reported that a total of 1,520 cases were registered during the campaign. The department destroyed 413,675 litres of wash, the raw material for liquor production. The seized vehicles included 11 large vehicles, three four-wheelers, and 55 motorcycles.

In terms of liquor confiscation, authorities seized 19,815 litres of foreign liquor valued at ₹1.99 crore, along with 5,512 litres of country liquor and 1,723 litres of beer. Additionally, 10,462 litres of illicit liquor were also caught. The department successfully thwarted attempts of liquor smuggling via train in Jaipur.

Raids were conducted in several districts, including Pali, Sri Ganganagar, Jodhpur, and Phalodi, where illegal distilleries were dismantled, and thousands of litres of wash were destroyed. The Excise Department has reiterated its commitment to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against illegal liquor.
