
Chittorgarh, April 9: An elderly man from Nimbahera has fallen victim to an online investment scam, losing ₹19.89 lakh. The victim was lured by an IPO advertisement on YouTube and ended up investing through a fraudulent app, resulting in the loss of his savings.
Trust Built Through WhatsApp Group
The scammers added the victim to a WhatsApp group where they showcased fake profit messages, gradually building his trust. Initially, he was persuaded to invest a small amount, which later escalated to transfers amounting to lakhs.
Fake App Showed Illusory Profits
The application displayed a growing balance, continuously encouraging the victim to invest more. However, when he attempted to withdraw his funds, the app was shut down, and the contact number was found to be switched off.
Case Registered at Cyber Police Station
The victim lodged a complaint on the 1930 portal. The Jaipur ATS-SOG registered a zero FIR and forwarded the case to the Chittorgarh Cyber Police Station, where an investigation is underway.
