Udaipur, March 1: The contamination of Udaipur‘s lakes with human and animal waste, along with chemicals, poses a severe threat to both environmental and public health. This alarming issue was highlighted during a recent citizen lake inspection held on Sunday.
Experts associated with the Lake Conservation Committee, including Dr. Anil Mehta, reported that human and animal waste is increasingly entering the lakes. Chemicals from dirty water discharged from homes and hotels, such as shampoos, soaps, cosmetics, and cleaning products, are also contributing to the pollution.
Dr. Mehta expressed concerns about the potential toxicity of the water, warning that this situation could present a serious challenge to public health. Tej Shankar Paliwal, a former member of the Lake Authority, described the environmental and ecological risks as grave, noting that sewage and solid waste, along with microplastics, severely impact aquatic life and their reproductive cycles.
Social activist Nand Kishore Sharma warned that this pollution could lead to gastrointestinal infections, skin diseases, and other neurological disorders among the general population. Educator Kushal Rawal pointed out that with the onset of March, temperatures are set to rise, which could accelerate bacterial reproduction in the water, further deteriorating water quality and increasing health risks.
Senior citizen Drupad Singh urged the administration to ensure the cleanliness of the lakes and take immediate, effective measures to control pollution.
