Doctors have reported a surge in patients suffering from respiratory infections and allergies. The combination of dense smog, increased particulate matter, and cold weather has aggravated conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and sinusitis among residents.
Medical experts note that air pollution levels have crossed safe limits, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching hazardous levels on several days. This has led to 40 to 50 percent more patient visits related to respiratory complaints in local hospitals and clinics.
Children and elderly individuals are particularly vulnerable, with many reporting symptoms like coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, and irritation in the throat and eyes. Health professionals advise limiting outdoor activities, using masks, and ensuring proper indoor ventilation to reduce exposure.
The surge in cases has prompted calls for immediate action from civic authorities to improve air quality and raise public awareness on preventive measures during the cold season.
