UP Police Issues Look-Out Notices to Three Medical Store Owners in Codeine Cough Syrup Case

Jaunpur, 18 December (Lake City Update) – The Jaunpur police in Uttar Pradesh have taken strict action against the illegal trade of codeine-based cough syrup. On Thursday evening, look-out notices were issued against three medical store owners who have been absconding since their names surfaced during the investigation.

This move has created a stir among those involved in the unlawful drug business. So far, FIRs have been registered against 12 medical store owners. Police believe that the case is not limited to illegal sales alone but may be connected to an organised network, with further layers unfolding gradually.

ASP City Ayush Srivastava stated on Thursday that stringent legal action is being taken against all accused in connection with the misuse and illegal supply of codeine cough syrup. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed locally to ensure a fair and thorough probe. The issuance of look-out notices will now prevent the accused from leaving the district.

Police investigations have revealed that large quantities of codeine cough syrup were being sold without valid prescriptions, and it was being misused as a narcotic. This posed a serious threat to the future of the youth. In response, police and the drug department have intensified their joint crackdown.

The police action is ongoing, and new revelations in the cough syrup case are expected. Authorities are tightening the noose around the absconding smugglers. A total of 18 people have been booked at the Kotwali police station in connection with the codeine cough syrup smuggling case.
