Udaipur Authorities Seal Registrars Offices Over Tax Dues

Udaipur, March 26:
In a significant move, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation took action against two major institutions on Thursday, leading to a stir across the city. The Registrar’s offices of BN University, a century-old educational institution, and RMV College were sealed due to outstanding UD tax payments. However, both offices were reopened within hours after the pending tax amount was deposited.

The operation commenced at 6 AM, with the municipal teams opting to conduct the action at the Registrar’s offices rather than the main gates of the colleges, considering the ongoing examinations. Notices were affixed at both locations by the municipal team. Officials assured that the academic activities and examinations of the colleges would not be affected by this action.

Outstanding Tax Amounting to ₹30 Lakhs
Combined, both institutions owed over ₹30 lakhs in UD tax, with approximately ₹25 lakhs pending from BN College and ₹5 lakhs from RMV College. Despite multiple notices, the authorities of these institutions had not responded to the demands.

Municipal teams arrived early in the morning under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna. The revenue unit, led by Revenue Inspector Mohit Agnihotri, Vijay Jain, and Rahul Meena, executed the operation swiftly before any significant reaction could occur.

Target of ₹20 Crores for Tax Collection
As of March 26, ₹17.60 crores of UD tax has already been collected for the current financial year. The municipal corporation has set a target of ₹20 crores for tax recovery. Commissioner Khanna stated that many property owners are still ignoring the system regarding UD tax. He urged them to pay their dues on time to avoid facing similar sealing actions.
