Ujjain, February 14: Preparations at the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain have been finalized ahead of the sacred festival of Mahashivratri, which will be celebrated across the country on February 15. With an expected influx of over one million devotees, both the temple administration and district authorities conducted inspections to ensure readiness.
During a meeting held in the temple hall, executive magistrates and officials were assigned responsibilities for different areas, and duty charts were issued.
Kausik, the administrator of the Mahakal Temple, stated, “The holy festival of Mahashivratri is on February 15, and we anticipate a large number of devotees. In light of this, the temple and district administrations have completed all necessary preparations. The executive magistrates have been briefed on their assigned tasks to ensure that no devotee faces any difficulties during their visit.”
He further noted that the number of devotees is expected to rise significantly on February 15 and 16, with each magistrate already visiting their designated sectors to implement timely changes. The temple administration estimates that over 10 lakh devotees may visit the temple in these two days. Efforts are being made to enhance the arrangements accordingly. Additionally, the temple doors will remain open for 44 hours, allowing devotees to witness the various adornments of the deity.
Special prayers will be held at the temple during Mahashivratri, continuing until the next day, February 16. The night of February 15 is particularly significant as the deity is adorned like a groom with floral crowns and heavy jewelry. Devotees from across the country flock to the Mahakal Temple to witness this extraordinary form of the deity.
