Mumbai Man Loses Rs 10 Lakh in Social Media Fraud in Kurla

Mumbai’s Kurla police have registered a case after a man was duped of Rs 10 lakh by a woman he befriended on social media. The accused used false excuses and threats to extort the large sum from the victim.

The complainant, a well-educated man living with his wife and children in Kurla West, runs his own business in the area. He came across an advertisement posted by the woman on social media and soon received a call from an unknown number. The woman introduced herself via messages, and the man expressed interest in meeting her.

Initially, the woman extorted Rs 10,000 from the man under various pretexts. Later, pretending to have affection for him, she fabricated stories about her father’s illness and subsequent death, through which she managed to extract an additional Rs 9.85 lakh. When the victim refused to send more money, she threatened to implicate him in a false rape case.

Following the man’s complaint, Kurla police have begun investigating the matter and are actively searching for the accused woman to arrest her soon. This incident highlights the increasing seriousness of social media frauds and serves as a warning for people to stay cautious while interacting online.
