New Delhi, 31 January. Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has secured a place in the final of the Australian Open 2026 after defeating Janik Sinner in a demanding semifinal match. Djokovic triumphed with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4. The 38-year-old Serbian veteran is now just one win away from claiming a record 25th Grand Slam title.
Speaking to the media after his victory, Djokovic said, “I have never stopped believing in myself. Many doubted me. I noticed that suddenly many experts wanted me to retire or declared my retirement multiple times over the past few years. I want to thank them all, as they gave me strength. They inspired me to prove them wrong. What I have tonight is no surprise to me.”
Djokovic acknowledged that his path to the semifinal was challenging. He mentioned that Sinner had benefited from Lorenzo Musetti’s injury retirement in the previous round, but emphasized that his own win over Sinner was the result of skill and determination.
The Serbian star added, “I know what I am capable of. During my career in Grand Slams, there have been many occasions when you cannot perform at your best. You try to find ways to win with full effort, even if the quality of tennis is not as high as you want.”
Sharing his approach to the match, Djokovic said preparation and clarity were vital against an opponent who has been performing strongly recently. “I was very clear about the strategy and game plan I needed to implement. There is a difference between how you want to play and how you execute that on court against a high-level player like Sinner.”
The men’s singles final of the Australian Open 2026 will be played on Sunday between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Djokovic will be aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title, while Alcaraz will seek his first Australian Open victory to complete a career Grand Slam and become the youngest player to achieve this feat.
