Congress Leader Detained Over Social Media Posts, Released Late Night

Udaipur, February 15, 2026 — Political tensions in Udaipur escalated to the police station after controversial social media posts triggered action against a Congress leader. Police detained former Congress councillor Gaurav Pratap Singh on charges related to breach of peace. He was later released late at night.

The controversy began after Gaurav Pratap Singh shared two provocative posts on his social media account targeting BJP rural district president Pushkar Teli. In the posts, he allegedly challenged Teli to come outside Sukher police station and used threatening language such as “clearing the misunderstanding.” There were also discussions that he allegedly spoke to Teli over phone in an inappropriate manner.

As the posts went viral, BJP workers expressed strong protest and the matter reached the police. During the exchange, BJP worker Yashwant Purohit also shared a post asking Gaurav Pratap to specify when and where he should come.

According to sources, the first post was made on Saturday, followed by another on Sunday, which intensified the dispute. Gaurav Pratap later deleted the posts in the evening after the issue gained traction.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, police detained Gaurav Pratap Singh between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm and took him to Govardhan Vilas police station. Officials reportedly ensured that the disputed posts were deleted. As news of his detention spread, Congress leaders and supporters gathered outside the police station. City Congress president Fatehsingh Rathore, Congress leader Abhimanyu Singh Jhala and Gaurav’s associate Sunny Pokharna were among those present.

Pushkar Teli is a resident of Gogunda, from where Congress leader Lala Singh Jhala also hails. It is said that Teli had made remarks referring to Jhala during a programme two days ago, which led to reactions on social media. Gaurav Pratap Singh is considered politically close to Lala Singh Jhala, who earlier served as Congress rural district president.
