She stated, “I am retiring from the Indian Police Service and this is a very emotional moment for me. Maharashtra Police has given me a lot, and I have learned much here. As a team, we raised Maharashtra Police to new heights. I feel deep satisfaction and wish all officers and staff good health and a bright future.”
A guard of honour was held in her honour at the Naigaon Police Ground in Dadar. The farewell ceremony was attended by several senior police officers and personnel, celebrating her long and remarkable service. An IPS officer from the 1988 batch, Rashmi Shukla made history by becoming the first woman to lead the Maharashtra Police.
During the Maha Vikas Aghadi government’s tenure, cases were registered against Rashmi Shukla relating to an alleged phone tapping incident. These cases caused significant political and administrative stir. However, all cases were later withdrawn. Opposition parties had accused her of bias during the assembly elections, which led the Election Commission to order her transfer. Subsequently, she was reinstated in her position.
