Udaipur, February 14: Amrita Haat has emerged as a vibrant platform amidst the fast-paced life of Udaipur, showcasing the hard work, skills, and self-reliance of women. The market is filled with the earthy aroma of clay, colorful handwoven textiles, and the fragrance of traditional spices, making it a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment. It is not merely a marketplace but a recognition of women whose talents were confined within their homes for years.
Women setting up stalls at Amrita Haat expressed that while their products previously reached larger markets, recognition and profits often went to intermediaries. Amrita Haat has bridged this gap, allowing women to sell their products directly and engage with customers. This shift has not only increased the value of their products but also significantly boosted their confidence.
Organized by the administration and the Department of Women Empowerment since 2015-16, Amrita Haat plays a crucial role in economically empowering women. This year, the event will take place from February 18, featuring a large number of women self-help groups and entrepreneurs.
Products such as pickles, papads, spices, and coarse grain items are now available in better packaging and quality, providing women with a steady income and enhancing their respect within families and communities. Amrita Haat also serves as a platform for cultural empowerment, where traditional jewelry, folk attire, and handicrafts are presented in line with modern needs.
Sanjay Joshi, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Empowerment, stated that every year, 80 to 120 stalls are set up at Amrita Haat. This time, cultural events along with sports activities will also be a major attraction.
